Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.

A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.

British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.dandare

There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.

Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.

I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.

This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

Here’s a compilation of Ron Embleton’s ‘Strongbow the Mighty’ strips from Mickey Mouse Weekly -Sept 1956 to Feb 1957. These are the four stories that immediately preceded his superb ‘Don o’ the Drums’….to follow shortly!

I think the Ron Embleton page would be the best bet as, sadly, I doubt if we’ll ever see anymore complete stories.

I am planning a new blog for later this year, it will be something like Family Fun and Educational Comics because so many good titles don’t fit in one of my blogs.
I have made a list with those that will be on this blog you can look through it and make suggestions if you miss anything that will fit. I will focus on those that were
published 1940-1990. The blog will not be ready sooner than somewehere at the end of the year because i have to start from scratch, many of the titles i allready have, others i have the downloadlinks but i still have to download lot’s and prepare them and so on and i still have my other blogs to maintain also.
But i like to plan ahead.

Here is the link to the page with the list.

I have an almost complete run of Look and Learn (only 6 missing) plus virtually all the free gift handouts and all the annuals of whatever sort. As I am not a whizz at scanning I was wondering if anyone would be interested in borrowing them for adding the scans to the collection.

Thanks for your offer. I don’t think many regular issues Look and Learn’s are missing, only most free gifts and handouts and annuals i believe. I hope someone is near you and like to borrow those for scanning.

Yes please. As I’ve scanned most of them over the years, I’d like to see the collection completed. I’ve mostly got missing issues between 1965-69 with the main bulk (over 30 issues) in 67-68 also missing many of the Card index of Knowledge pages. there’s also two odd issues 824 and 967 and some of the 1975 issues were left in a damp garage and missing booklet pages. Willing to collect, just NE of London.

Only slight problem is that I am in Berwick-upon-Tweed. However, if you are still prepared to come up I could hand over all the available stuff though not all have the Cards of Knowledge pages present. I would be prepared to lend the annuals and freebies etc. You could have a look at them and decide.
Otherwise we could sort out which pieces you want and we could send them in the post or by sections.

We might be down in Stamford, Lincs, visiting family in September. That might cut the distance to 75 miles each way.

I’ll try and list what I have here for your selection.

I am also thinking of a new blog, but that will be for next year though, a sort of a continuation of the Comic Heroes of the Golden Age. That would be Comic Heroes of the Silver (56-70) and Bronze Age (71-85) both of them in 1 blog. Some series will be a continuation of what’s allready started in de Golden Age Blog but many new heroes saw daylight in these 2 periods.

    Aquaman
    the Atom
    Doctor Solar
    Hawkman
    Fantastic Four
    Green Arrow
    Human Torch
    Justice League of America
    Metal Men
    Nick Fury
    Spider-Man
    X-Men

    And many more offcourse.

Not only superheroes but all kind of heroes that are typical for these periods.

With artists like Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Gil Cane, Steve Ditko, John Buscema and others that played such important roles in these periods.

My first thought was to make 1 blog for the Silver Age, but why not also the Bronze age, because that period gave daylight on some new heroes also and are still attractive to me.

It’s personal also because i find comics in these 3 periods, Golden, Silver and Bronze,
so much better than those in the Modern age. Somehow those Modern age comics don’t attract me at all, but i guess nostalgic reasons has something to do with it.

Let me know what your thoughts are about it.

Here’s my compilation of the 2 ‘Man From Uncle’ stories that Ron Embleton did for Lady Penelope in 1966. And I guess that his folder is the best place to file it. The second story, btw, features a master forger named Embleton….

      PS:

I had to place it in the various widget because that Lady Penelope widget was for my own compilations.
I can make a widget for you where i can put all compilations you made if you want.

I only need to fit the issues into the pages that are organized allready, but i had to do that anyway and i can take my time for it. I just leave all updatepages as they are for a long period for anyone who still need to download these ones. It doesn’t hurt anyone to have 25 or even more updatepages with the updatedates, perhaps i even can make 1 widget just for all the updatepages.
