Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.
A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.
British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.
You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.
There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.
You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.
Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.
I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.
I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.
This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.
If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.
Thanks to the following sites for the information :

Hi everyone
been lots of stuff about DC Thomson mentioned, what can and cannot be uploaded and shared at ANY SITE. Respecting rules of different sites as to whether the owners of those sites allow or not is irrelevant as I queired this with Dc Thomson themselves and I’ve had an email from them and privacy rules. It is a long email BUT to cut to the important bit they have told me, and I quote
“without written or digital permission is any material produced and owned by DC Thomson allowed, this includes copying work, distributing copies of it, whether free of charge or for sale, renting or lending, performing, showing or playing in public, making an adaptation, putting it on the internet, or sharing over the internet”
I think this clears up the situation once and for all.

Thanks, that sounds more as expected for me. Why should they force me to delete all DC Thomson material from the site and a few years later they give permission all of a sudden because they find it such a good site while nothing has changed on my blog, it is so from the beginning in 2015.

At the risk of breaking my promise to be nicer to people, the person on the previous page who lied about working for DC Thomson is an absolute piece of shit. Imagine trying to trick someone into doing something that could either land them in legal trouble or lead to their hard work being undone just so they could get more free comics. That no-one really believed them is neither here nor there.
And again it’s worth remembering that this is Boutje’s site, we’re all just guests. If Boutje says something isn’t allowed on the site, that’s the end of it.

Thanks, that’s what i thought, either he wanted to trick me to place something he wants for free, or he deliberately try to get this blog into trouble, would not be the 1st time. One of the reasons i was not so eager te believe him or her.

well all i know is if you had allowed that to happen this site would shut down rather promptly once DC Thomson saw it. So hope everyone can now see the hard line DC Thomson have on this and there is simply no way round it, no matter what dates material was published, they own the lot, its a business, it’s financial income that is being stolen by anyone who breaches. I’m wondering if this could border on criminal prosecution as I suppose it amounts to stealing, I note there are some guys selling DVD discs full of comic material on ebay.
You’ve got to be so careful these days on sharing material.

And to be fair to DC Thomson, they’re a going concern in a difficult market, and do actually make some effort to get old material in print.
I also believe them to actually have a fairly exhaustive archive compared to IPC and Rebellion, which means it’s not even much of a DCP thing.

Also don’t get me started on eBay sellers, charging people for stuff they’ve downloaded for free from the internet. Subhuman scum, simple as. Sometimes so tempted to put a watermark saying “Available for free online, if you paid money you were robbed” on scans.

Webfind Friday! Weird annuals from Archive.org, all I’ve done is PDF > CBZ. I did try to have a good look to avoid doubles, but sorry if I missed any already online here.
10-4 Action Annual 1983 (the best/worst thing I’ve seen for a good couple of weeks)
Charlie’s Angels Annuals 1979 and 1980
Dangermouse Annual 1987
How the West Was Won Annual 1987
Ipswich Town Annual 1982
Kylie Minogue Annual 1990
Max Headroom Annual 1987 (by quick count, something like 20 to 25% full-page headshots of Max)
Mighty Heroes Annual 1984 (reprints material that appears to be from Argentina; there is another one of these at least)
Pop Super Stars Annual 1984
Return of the Saint Annual 1979 (nice title sequence, shame about the show)
SAS Annual 1984 (Garth Ennis probably still reads this in bed every night)
Starfleet Annual 1984
Superman Annual 1983
Wonder Woman Annual 1984

About the Mighty Heroes Annual, the GCD list two that one here and another the next year. It also suggests the material is from a Spanish source.

I will presume that the Ipswich Town Annual refers to the Football team, not the community

By the time the 1987 annual was done, you’d think that Grandreams would have realised that everyone loved the Max Headroom pilot much more than the music video show and snuck some proper text/strip fiction content into it.
LikeLike
Grandreams weren’t really about ensuring high quality content… if someone like Marvel UK would do it for them, great, but otherwise they were just like World Distributors – get a licence for a press kit, pad to 64 pages, do a fancy cover to get the grans to buy it for Christmas, job done. In some ways it’s amazing the annual market didn’t collapse earlier.
LikeLike
May not have been Grandreams fault. As it was a licensed product they would have had an agreement with the Maz Headroom owners as to whay they could and couldn’t do. We are used to that over here. Gold Key who published Star Trek for the US market couldn’t use any of the alien races from the show, and that included Klingons and Romulans. Any you wouldn’t recognize Scotty.

It’s the same thing with the infamous Doctor Who Annuals (among others!) put out by World Distributors, which usually had the rights to the Doctor, a companion and very little else and are well known for their poor quality.
British annuals have an unusual model in that they weren’t really designed to be sold directly to kids, but as a cheap and easy gift for older relatives to purchase. That’s one of the reasons they had text stories and feature pages when the actual comics had dropped them – to look more educational. In some ways it’s more surprising that so many of them are half-decent.

I am very slowly leaning towards declaring that a set; Alan Clarke’s book lists the series as running continuously to 1955, but in 3+ years of searching I’ve yet to find even the tiniest glance of 1941-1946, so it seems more likely the annuals went on hiatus during WW2 and returned to publication afterwards as the weekly comic was still running.

Hi boombox’ Lofts and Adley listed a 1941, 1942, 1943 but nothing after until 1948

Ah, now Lofts & Adley is a bit weightier (no offence to Mr. Clark; TBF the Children’s Annual book is quite old). I’ve only ever seen the 41-43 Girls’ Crystals in those annoyingly incomplete Friardale scans and the corresponding Film Fun and Radio Fun annuals go for silly money, so it’s more likely that they’re just really, really, really rare. Series *not* complete, then!

Looking at the annuals section of Comics UK and found that the annuals for 1940 to 1943 do not have any cover pictures. As well there is no anual listed for the years 1944 to 1947. They also don’t have a cover for the 1937 annual. Don’t know if any of this means anything but there you have it.

Thanks, that is handy, their listings are usually pretty good. I’m not sure at all about the 1937 one either.

I hate, hate, hate scanning picture libraries, so boring. I *think* only the last story is new to us, and even then it might just be that I’ve not spotted it yet.

Checking to see if this one was indexed on GCD (it wasn’t) and notice something odd with the numbering sequence. It goes 1, 2, 1970, 1969, 1971. I can see how it might have happened but why an editor didn’t catch it I have no idea.

*Possibly* the changeover in management from Fleetway to IPC, which was haywire, but that’s a pretty big slip! The joys of basically being unregulated…

I’ve processed the latest update, all updates are on the titlepages with the exception of Buster, Lion, Roy of the Rovers, Whizzer and Chips and Whoopie! Which i will be working on this week. These titles i like to keep well organized as they are along with some other large titles. The other titles i made updatenotes at the top with these issues, in the future i will work that way because keeping all pages as well organized as they are now will be too time consuming for me right now. Perhaps in the future when i have some more spare time i will try to make these pages better organized again 1 by 1. But the main thing is that all issues will be on their titlepages so when you search for a title you can be sure they are all on the same page.
