Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.

A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.

British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.dandare

There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.

Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.

I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.

This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

    • A very interesting title; pre-WW2 dramatic picture strips were considered something for younger readers unable to get the sophisticated humour (sic.) of the black-and-white penny comics, and this one was stacked with them. According to Gifford, My Favourite was edited by Florence Pearce, who appears to be an actual woman working on juvenile weeklies at the time. It was a replacement for Comic Life, and was in turn replaced by The Sparkler.

    • A sort of Punch style adult satirical magazine published by James Henderson & Sons (Comic Life, Lot-o-Fun, etc.). Printed on very nice glossy paper – and so it bloody should be; for those unfamiliar with the arcane pre-decimal British currency, a shilling was the same price as 24 issues of Comic Cuts or Illustrated Chips at the time.

    • Similar thing to Miracle Library and Oracle Library. Basically nothing about this volume online (the British Library brings up a series of the same name launched by AP in 1913, but if this is the same one that is one messed up publishing schedule). Probably started around the relaxation of paper rationing in 1949, but that is a guess. Woman’s World (I made a typo in the files, sorry) was a magazine but most of these ran fiction, though there’s every chance the branding was simply slapped on either reprints from other titles or original material. Under-researched area.

    And some webfinds: –

Not done a lot of research into this one, but the Barbie strips appear to be original work. The format shifts around a bit (never a sign of good health) but the regular stories seem to be two Barbie strips (a serial and a complete, the latter usually travel-themed) and “Skipper’s Friends the Byrds” about a family Barbie’s little sister knows who have lots of Happy Days/Surprise Corner-type mishaps.

Padded out by non-Barbie one-offs which reek of inventory. Later on Limahl tribute act Dora Dogsbody, late of Tammy, turns up.

The comic stayed fortnightly for its entire 45 issue run. No idea if there were any other specials, but Fleetway did issue three annuals (one we have, two I have in my scan pile). No idea if it was merged with anything; Worst Distributors seem to have got the licence from Mattel soon afterwards so trademark issues may have prevented it being added to Girl (which I think was the only IPC weekly aimed at young girls still going).

The only issue of Lindy I have, though it dies fit neatly into the gap! Strange how this one seems to get very little love when Tammy and Jinty have such a following.

Hi… I’m trying to find what I think was an issue of Look and Learn (but I could be wrong) that had an article about what life might look like on Jupiter. It had an amazing (in my memory) illustration of blue whale-like creatures “swimming” through the Jovian clouds.

Does that ring a bell for anyone? I was born in 1964 and I think it would have been an early 70s issue. I see there are no 70s issues here sadly.
