Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.

A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.

British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.dandare

There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.

Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.

I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.

This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

Great! Thank you to all the contributors an Boutje for the update, and for me personally to Mr Tweedy. I however can’t remember making any contributions this round but appreciate the mention if there was.

Cheers and enjoy your vacation and summer!

8 Comets, from the last but one backwards. Generally guessing issue numbers is a mug’s game, but Holland & Adley’s indexing of Comet means these are verified.

THANK YOU Boombox for all your Uploads.

I look forward to reading the Comets on Boutje next update.

Sadly can’t access your latest Comets, not quick enough.

I read the Comets as a young boy, late 50’s, I don’t know where you get them, but please, please keep them coming. Takes me back memory lane.

      Kind Regards Bosco

That’s actually sadly about all of Comet I have for now, still kicking myself as the same place I got those had a huge pile of “blue” Comets too I passed on, and I’ve not seen many from that era since.

(P.S. try the link again, just don’t tell anyone that I’m a bit of a soft touch)

I belatedly add my thanks to Boombox (and all the other scanners) for all the recent updates. You’ve found some truly amazing material from my childhood (and in most cases) earlier. We don’t see many British comics here in New Zealand nowadays, unlike when I was a kid when they were a staple of growing up.

Hello, I put this in another thread several months ago but haven’t had any luck yet…I’m trying to find a war comic from the 1973-76 timeframe. One story involved a tank squadron called Springbok in the desert, and another story involved a ship ramming some gates in a port and destroying them. Anyone familiar with these stories? Not sure if it was Battle, or Commando, etc.

Please let me know if there’s another location I should post this query. Thanks.

Not sure if it’s any help but ramming gates thing is presumably based on the St Nazaire Raid. Google’s suggesting a feature in a fifties Victor Annual, though naturally lots of war comics just based fictional stories on real events and changed names around.

    22 x Film Fun

Mainly fifties, might be a double or two in there. Do wish we had more pre-Laurel and Hardy issues of Film Fun, but they really don’t show up often.

Okay gang, need some feedback on this one. And not the quality of the contents of the comic itself, which I think we can all agree is Crisis-bad.

As I’ve mentioned in the past for various reasons an A3 scanner is unfeasible, so for stuff larger than A4 I scan half-and-half and stitch on GIMP. This is fine for pre-war stuff which never uses full-page images, meaning there’s always a good point to blend the overlap together.

While it’s a little way off in my “fragile first” scanning order, I do have some sixties/seventies Big Page stuff I want to do – Princess, Princess Tina, Pink etc. – and I’d like some honest feedback on what my stitching game is like on this here issue of Top Spot. I know where the join lines are, so find it hard to ‘unsee’ them, would be interested in some fresh eyes.

    https://www.mediafire.com/file/sjnd4gkii2906sm/Top+Spot+13+1959-01-17.cbz/file

    Now, 2 caveats: –

    1. The centrefold was somewhat crinkled (yeah, don’t want to think about that too much) and I just sort of gave up on that one.
    2. I only respect the opinions of people who respect others, so some random leech going “it looks great” because they want free comics ASAP is going to get ignored. I want honest feedback about whether my skill needs honing before I sink time into this.

Hi Boombox – I’ve been through this twice now and with the exception of pages 3 and 18, where I think I can spot a join, there is nothing wrong with your work on this scan. For me the deciding factors will always be how clear the artwork and text are (given the original materials are sometimes faded). This scan satisfies my criteria – text and artwork are clear and legible. Hope this helps. Regards Ian.

Honest feedback – I can’t see the joins in 90% of the pages and it all reads clearly. I don’t think many of us are going to be bothered about Sophia Loren’s skirt! This must be very time consuming for you, and we appreciate everything you do.

Thanks! Have to say one of the factors in me basically giving up on the Sophia pages is that I would very much expect there’s a negative of that precise shot out there someone can use for a pin-sharp strike that isn’t on yellowing newsprint…

      Hi

Not an expert (working on it but basic scanning efforts aren’t great), but can’t see a lot wrong with what you have done. When I zoom comic reader to 100% the join is noticeable but a lot better than a lot of scans I have seen. Wouldn’t worry too much, the scan is good. As with a lot of things practice makes perfect. Good work.

For me it looks great, but i am no scanner at all so it’s hard to give an expert opinion other than it reads fine for me, just a little zooming for the smaller reading parts, but that’s my eyesight.

      Hi Boombox
It all looks very good to me.
The only thing I think could be improved is p18 – as the top scan is darker than the bottom scan – if you can get the scans more consistent it would be unnoticeable But a small point as it is good enough as it is – so please keep up the great work……..and thanks for all the scans – some nice items are turning up.

That’s true, but that was always the case from the start of this blog, the scanners varies with the periodes, the 1 year you see alot from this scanners and the next year from other scanners. There are also anonymous scanners, changing ip adresses, so you can’t tell who’s who sometimes, someone might place links with that adress and give a comment with another adress. You are anonymous with this posting, so how can you tell you are a scanner yourself or a “grabber”. And keep in mind that not every one has the capabilities to scan for different reasons, work, family life, money etc.

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback, I really, really appreciate it =) I’ll probably flag any I’m concerned about when I get there.

I don’t mean to be so grouchy about grabbers/leeches/raycomic. No-one makes me buy and scan comics, I choose to do so, and I share them partly so they’re out there if I accidentally delete a file or if my computer explodes.

And I get that contributing scans can be a tricky thing with geography and time, I really do. Naturally it’s kind of frustrating – the figures for my stuff alone is typically 80-100 downloads, so there’s always that “if everyone who downloaded scanned a comic a month” thing… But that’s my own obsession with digital archiving bleeding in.

I know full well how much it would cost someone in Italy to get a Score Annual shipped to them or whatever, and that’s fair enough. And I get away with doing a lot of this stuff at work, which is obviously a very privileged set of circumstances.

So personally to me you’re not a leech/grabber/raycomic if you make any basic attempt to interact with people beyond grumbling about what you can’t get right this minute. Doesn’t matter if you don’t have any comics to share, you bother taking the time to make a scanner know they’re work is appreciated, that gets respect.

Again, I get that it’s sort of the nature of the internet to just passively take, take, take but it would be lovely if this place for such a niche area could maybe be a bit different.

I have been wanting to thank you for all your hard work for some time, but let down my an odd computer bug that meant that for some reason I couldn’t use half my keyboard when commenting on Boute’s blog (and presumably other WordPress blogs). Been driving me mad.

Still can’t use the left hand quarter of the keyboard (including annoyingly a’s and e’s.) Yet the keyboard works fine in most other apps (I am an online writer by trade, too). Anyhow, it dawned on me today to try the iPad (successfully as you can see).

So thank you, thank you, thank you for all your scanning in recent months…. And I agree with the others that your quality is perfectly good, only let down by the quality of the original fragile comics.
