Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.

A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.

British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.dandare

There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.

Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.

I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.

This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

    A few more.

The GC needed work around the outside, so I tidied it up a bit, someone else may want to do some more work on it, also included my earlier copy of “My Guy, Best of Volume 1”, just in case you need it.

Radio Fun Annual 1957, I assume missing one of the rear endplates and whatever was printed on the other side. Hard to get too upset about it.

It’s reprint-heavy; John Briton and His Speed-Shell is a reprint of Paul Power and His Speed-Shell from Illustrated Chips, and like most of the Stan Gooch annuals (Tip Top Book, TV Fun Annual, etc.) the contents are pulled from any title he has or had edited.

That could be a little difficult i think because they are mostly allready compressed, and i don’t think you can compress files any further when they are allready compressed. But i don’t have that much knowledge about this, i only do and use it because i’m used to.

@Anon: It’s really easy to downsize files your end if you prefer a lower resolution; change the extension to zip/rar and extract the files, use a free image processor like XNView to bulk resize the files, re-Zip, rename the extension back. Maybe a minute’s work an issue.

Is there any chance of having a search function on this website please? I’m looking for particular titles but can’t find them, even though I know they were on this site somewhere. How and Why books for example. With no search, this site is frustrating to use sometimes. Thanks for all the work though!

Girls Crystal Annual 1966, missing pages 67-70. Which annoyingly I didn’t notice until it came to scanning time. Will keep half an eye out for another cheap copy, but weirdly sixties Crystal annuals don’t seem to come up often.

    Hi,

I really appreciate this site – so many comics from my long ago youth – appreciation to you and the scanners/contributors.

Over time, I’ve found most of my old favourites, but there’s one batch I can’t seem to track down and was wondering if someone could help out with a pointer in the general direction?

It’s from maybe between 1958 and 1963 and was published in one of the half text half comic series – Hotspur or Wizard possibly, but this was a long time ago.

The story, mainly text but with vivid illustrations, is about giant mutant cacti that propagate by shooting out their spines like javelins over long distances, impaling anything they manage to hit, The javelins are actually seeds, so new cacti grow where the spines strike. The race is on to control the spread…. and this is where I couldn’t continue the comic. The ending has bugged me for more than 60 years!

If anyone remembers the story and where it appprared over many issues. I’d be forever grateful for any hints that might help me track them down!

If there’s anopther way of matching a story/plot to a comic, that’d also help.

    Best wishes,
    Jake

The titles you mentioned are from DC Thomson and everything related to this publisher is forbidden on the blog, possibly the reason you can’t find the story.

Does sound like a Wizard/Hotspur story, though I’m afraid my working knowledge of them isn’t great. Friardale.co.uk has all of Collector’s Digest archived so it might be worth mashing a few keywords in.

Thanks for the Friardale link, but nothing came up with various combinations of search. I know that Boutje doesn’t have DC Thomson comics for copyright reasons, but was hoping to jog someones memory about where the mutant cactus story might have appeared. If I can narrow it down to a particular comic, I can try and track them down. I’ve found some Wizards and Hotspurs from around that date, and neither look like what I remember the comic being like. Victor is a possibility? Another thing I remember is this comic had detailed exploded diagrams of fighter and bomber aircraft if that jogs anyone elses memory.

        Thanks for any hints!

If my memory serves those types of diagrams were a staple of the original Eagle. Those are on this site. Might be worth checking out. Do you recall the name of either the feature you are looking for or any other features in the comic. The GCD search function works with features. Of course the comic has to be indexed for it to work.

Unfortunately I don’t remember the tirle/name of the story, which is complicating any search. The Eagle is the closest so far to the right sort of “look” in my search for the mutant cactus story. I’m going through these, but they’re large downloads and slow….

Another memory of the comic is that unlike the Eagle it had a single large colour illustration as the front page, and the exploded diagrams were sometimes double page spreads. Other features memorable to a 12 year old in 1961 were articles on the Charge of the Light Brigade and another on Congreve rockets.

Any further ideas on what this comic might be would be greatly appreciated!

(deep breath) The Giant Holiday All-Girl Comic Album

Paper size and quality really not sympathetic to picture library reprints.

Do we have the Giant Fantasy one of these? I thought we did but the version I have only has about 40 pages.
