Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.

A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.

British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.dandare

There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.

Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.

I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.

This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

Given this by a friend, who found it in an old house he was renovating. I’ve restored it a bit as it was in bad condition. Done my best. Enjoy.

They’ll be in Boutje’s next update I expect, so wait until then.

I do not take a particularly generous view of people who only extend thanks when they want something free a couple of weeks early. I would honestly not play games with someone as irritated by this sort of behaviour as I am at the moment.

        Hello again Boombox Testarossa
I’m sorry but i didn’t understand exactly waht did you mean.

I’m not at all “impatient” to get theses comics and I use to wait, quietly, Boutje upadates when he post them, if something interest me.
I’d just thought that was a probleme with the upload site and I mentionned it… thats’ all…
And, again thanks to you and all the uploaders who give such tresors to this site.

Look, I’m trying to be polite but firm here, and I do appreciate that you’re not talking in your first language. Your English is miles better than my anything else.

          • Boutje has the scans, and post to say he did. That is the only reason I had for posting links.
          • You asked “Could it be possible to put them again” and the answer is “No, there is no need to because Boutje has them and will be including them in a future update”.

Again, as to the best of my knowledge you have not made any attempt to positively interact until you found a broken link and that we’re talking waiting a month or whatever for some 60 year old comics, I see no reason to reverse this.

First of all, I thank you for all the masterpieces, but there is a problem: how can I search for a specific magazine, where is the search engine?

There is no search engine, if you look at the mainpages, in this case Magazines Books, you will find what you are searching for, or not when it’s not there.

    Fleetway Super Library #01 – Front Line Series – Maddock’s Marauders [1967]

This was uploaded a few days ago and I’ve used it as test for a new way of cleaning/whitening pages that maintains the original black levels of the images

here it is for anyone interested.

Nice! I know there are two schools of thought on this but I like nice clean pages, makes the artwork pop more amd it’s closer to how the things looked when they were published. Bluntly there’s often not a huge amount of detail to lose.

Hi Lee McDaid. I was the original uploader of “Fleetway Super Library #01 – Front Line Series – Maddock’s Marauders [1967]”.

The reason it’s in greyscale is that the foxing on this comic was bad, so to save me having to edit it & take out the foxing on every page, i greyscaled it.

The process from turning pictures from grey to white, whilst keeping the black levels, is a simple one, i found.

The way i do it, is to scan it, soften it, change it to an old photo, the then to greyscale, then lighten it, this gets rid of foxing whilst still retaining the black levels. Though sometimes it can be a laborious job.

How are others doing it !

Sometimes when you scan, you have no option but to either whiten or greyscale it due to the foxing & the grade of the paper used back in the day. Personally, i think it’s down to the scanner.

I don’t use any fancy apps, programs or software, just use the same one i got for free many years ago.

Personally, i like both, when i remember when i used to buy the war style comics back in the day, the pages were greyish white, due to the paper they were printed on, not white, but there again, they look just as good in white.

Either way, i’ll keep posting, some will be in greyscale, some will be in white. I don’t like posting items that have foxing everywhere.

Keep up the good work everyone, scanners & uploaders, especially Boutje, without him, this site wouldn’t exist.

    Will post more shortly.

    Enjoy the long weekend.

Hi! First of all just to say I’m sorry if it seemed rude or like criticism, it’s really not meant that way =)

Personally I use XNView on desktop to process, it’s free, very dynamic, has bulk processing options and can also do things like bulk renaming easily. It has a good range of sliding scales which is useful when there’s so many different sources, even in the same title!

Mobile is trickier. Samsung’s built-in gallery is better than you’d think but never flawless (especially in producing very bloated file sizes), and I’ve yet to find a half decent resizing app.

That said, most comic readers have adjustable viewing settings so I wouldn’t worry about it, people can always change it their end =)

I hope I didn’t offend you with my “touch-up” job on your scanned files, Anon. It certainly wasn’t my intention.

I was just looking for an excuse to try out a new (new for me!) method of whitening/cleaning/changing? images and rather than trawl through my own collection of scans looking for slightly ‘off-white’ images inside a .CBR/.CBZ file, I used yours as they were perfect for the “test” .. i.e. all ready separated as individual images, all in one folder and all just “slightly” tarnished :)

Hi. It’s ok, no offence taken. Still here.

Most of the things i scan come from a charity shop or a few. They save things for me that they can’t sell (annuals, books, comics, newspapers, magazines) & would normally throw away, due to age, them being damaged beyond repair etc. (Damaged spines, missing pages, loose pages, graffiti, etc). I go around once a week, most times a pay a few £’s for a carrier bag or two. I never check the bags until i get home, there’s always something worth scanning, sadly sometimes, there are items though that can’t be saved. I scan then sort things out later, if i’ve time.

Here’s something for someone to get their teeth into over the long weekend. This is a large raw unedited rar file. Needs the pages, cleaning, straightening, reducing in file size.

Hopefully, someone will do the about & then re-post it

Nice! I have SF60 awaiting processing and I *think* all the ones from then on we don’t have in my to scan list. I may post a list of what I have to do in general but I worry that would be unfair if people hold off on something and I don’t get round to it before I read too much Souper Cat and get put off permanently.

I *think* School Friend Annual is still AP/Fleetway/INC’S longest-running annual, though I’ve lost track of what 2000 AD does these days.

There hasn’t been a 2000AD Annual for decades. The last traditional hardcover one was 2000AD Annual 1991 (i.e. published in 1990). That was followed over the next four years by softcover 2000AD Yearbooks.

These were discontinued after 1994, presumably due to the general decline in the UK comics market. (A lot of the crunch – which also affected specials and saw Judge Dredd Megazine teetering on the brink for the rest of the decade – has been pinned on the failure of the Judge Dredd movie of 1995, but the Yearbooks were dropped before this could have had any effect.)

In December 1999 the regular prog was dropped for three weeks in favour of a bumper ‘2000AD Prog 2000’, which served as a kind of substitute annual. This practice continued until the middle of the last decade but since then the bumper special has been integrated into the regular numbering.

Rebellion has gradually reintroduced the Sci-Fi Specials that were phased out soon after the Annuals, but I don’t think we’ll see another hardcover any time soon. They published a largely reprint Treasury of British Comics Annual at the end of last year, which might be testing the water for something – or might not.

Cheers for the info =) IIRC the annuals generally took a bit of a hammering from the mid-1980s licensing onslaught (as well as, as you say, the market in general hitting what can probably be described as terminal decline) and Maxwell cutting what was left of Fleetway to the bone, ending that wonderful phenomenon of annuals coming out years after the weekly was axed. The Scottish Publisher sat it out a lot longer, but I’d guess that was their low overheads.

School Friend Annual is idd as it outran two cancelled weeklies, and both by some distance too. Some of the
