Welcome on this blog full of information about British comics and offcourse the comics.

A British comic is a periodical published in the United Kingdom that contains comic strips. It is generally referred to as a comic or a comic magazine, and historically as a comic paper.

British comics are usually comics anthologies which are typically aimed at children, and are published weekly, although some are also published on a fortnightly or monthly schedule. The top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano, and Comic Cuts, are all British, although in modern times British comics have been largely superseded by American comic books and Japanese manga.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.dandare

There are no DC Thomson related comics on the site, because i had to remove these.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.

Most comics are from the 50’s-80’s with some 90’s.

I only place issues from last century,
so no issues newer than the year 1999.

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.

This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

      You are welcome.
I am working indeed on Hornet also, but that is a big task with almost 650 issues to sort out, i allready have 236 different stories, but i have to sort these out also because there are stories with just 15 pages or less and i don’t want to bother everyone with such short stories. I am not gonna make them all like the ones i am placing now with front covers and so, (only the longer ones with characters like Captain Hornet, Jonah, Ugg) the others with only the pages of a story compiled to 1 cbr to read. In the future i am planning to do the same with Valiant and Victor.

I have some Ladybirdbooks on my blog for childrenbooks, but i don’t know which ones and how old they are, you have to look for yourself.

      P.S.

I just looked at my Hornet map and i am almost ready with Jonah, but i can only find information about this character in the Beano and the Dandy and some in Buddy. Isn’t the one in the Hornet not the same Jonah ?

Impressed by all the compilations – you have been very busy.
A dozen more Commando’s – although this is only a line up of the usual suspects:

Thanks for the links. I am working on the compilations for some years now and am finishing the last touches on most of them. But yes busy indeed, i am always short of a couple of hours at the end of a day. I am lucky that i don’t need as much sleep, usually i rest for 6 hours at the most, only when i don’t feel that well a bit longer.

Only 2 not already in my extensive electronic and physical collection are certainly mostly not the usual suspects Sir.

I hope to join you in extending the others’ collection over the long upcoming holidays.

It seems that Cdo numbers 3000+ do not appear a lot on its page, I will start with sharing that I have. Some may be repeats but I hope you bear with me.

No downloads just good reference for indexing the picture libraries that you have. Fleetway does reprint far more of their stories across their range than DC Thomson.

I am in doubt of making a new blog for the British compilations or just place them all on this blog, not only those i made myself but i come across other compilations often also.
I am afraid this blog will become to crowded and perhaps somewhat hard to find what you are looking for ?

On a blog for compilations i can make categories also like for characters, for just stories, for titles like 2000ad from which i have many compilations also.

    I appreciate some input.

For me the compilations as you have it now is ok. Unless there are so many othera to add. Then it is not a matter of clutter so much as management for you. A possible solution is to put the widgets for compilations on the right side of this blog page instead as a sort of differention from regular comics links

        Thanks for your input.
I am afraid, although afraid is not the right word, that there will be well over 1000 different compilations in the next year. Onfortunately i can only use widgets on 1 site of this theme, otherwise i have to use a completely different theme and that gives problems with the complete layout. It will make the middle section for comments also alot smaller with another theme. And i can’t try different themes because this theme isn’t available anymore, (that is the reason my other blogs have different layouts, i wanted them to be all the same) so if another theme don’t fit so well, i loose this theme.

Just today I thought that now it became rather difficult to get oriented in this blog. I guess another dedicated to compilations would be useful.

Foolish odea, but maybe you could set a list for what series appeared in what issues so you wouldn’t have to go crazy adding a ton of links. For example, maybe you could list Robot Archie and the the issues of comics in which he appeared: Let’s say for example Robot Archie (and I know this is inaccurate): Issues #1-43, 47-60, etc.

I remember your old/original compilations and there were piles of them. I downloaded
lots. If it’s the same amount or more, perhaps a new blog would be better, but I don’t want you knocking your pan out – you do enough already.
    Thanks again.

Thanks for your input paw. Yes they were mostly from the golden age of comics, i think i lost most of them during the third comic war.
I will think about a new blog for the British compilations, otherwise this blog is to piled up with everything. It’s not that much work, making the blog is a matter of 1 hour but filling it is another piece of cake, but since it’s either here or on the new blog, the amout of time i have to put in it will be the same.

    It’s me again.
I have also a couple of hundred (7 or so) Adventure, the Rover, the Skipper and the Wizard
Shall i place these in this blog or in the pulp and other old magazines blog that i am planning for early next year.

Those are more storypaperlike then comics offcourse, but in my opinion more comic than magazine and it’s British as can be i believe.
So my first thought is, now the compilations are relocated to another blog, best to put them here ?

Boutje, I have a problem and maybe you can help me. I have collected a lot of material, especially strips, found in various archives online and I would like to edit it in the best possible way. The same thing you are now doing with your marvellous compilations, I mean. What programs do you use to put the material together, adjust it etc. ? In
particular, I’m looking for a program that allows to transfer the texts of the balloons, or rewrite them, because I have many British strips (for example all of Romeo Brown, a lot of Fosdyke Saga and Buck Ryan) in English – usually of poor quality – and also in best foreign versions. It’s possible to make a good work with open source stuff like Gimp and Krita? Thanks in advance.

Hello mulo, i don’t use that many programs.
I start with unpacking the issues i am going to use.
Rename the files with the name of the issue and number them with a filerenamer, so i can see what issues are involved in a compilation.
Go through all pages and separate them in all the stories and characters.
Search for information on the compilation story of character.
Make the covers and informationtextpages using Paint Shop.
Put everything together in 1 or more cbr files.

I don’t have any programs to transfer text from balloons or so, i just use the pages as they are.

Maybe someone else know of such programs.

I never heard of Gimp and Krita, i am not that into computerprograms, just the ones i am used too working with like Winrar, Paint Shop, Wordpad,
      just basicprograms.

I hope this helps somehow and hoping that others can help you further along.
