Penny is a weirdly obscure title for the period, not much about it online, and it doesn’t seem to be included in Susan Brewer’s excellent overview of British girls comics. Comparing it to things like Tammy and Girl it seems to be aimed at the same slightly younger audience, as Pixie was.
The first issue was 24 April 1979, the last 5 April 1980. It ran for 49 issues before merging with Jinty. It clearly didn’t to too badly, getting past 22 (unlike Starlord and Tornado from around the same time). It seems to have adopted the format of shorter serials over a lot of recurring characters, and to have picked up the literary adaptations previously from the “posh papers”, which again suggests it was pitched to parents who bought comics for their kids rather than older kids who had their own pocket money.
