I appreciate all the hard work you do and I’ve enjoyed the comics you post. However, I’ve been having problems downloading anything from your last 3 updates. Everyone I try to convert through zip comes up with an ERROR message saying ‘not a valid RAR file.’ I can still do the older posts okay, it’s just the new stuff. Can you suggest a way around this? I’ve tried different times of the day and night so it isn’t download overloading. Hope you can help. Thanks.

I am afraid i can’t help with problems like these, only when a file is deleted i can make a new link, but the problems are just with a few, i’ve asked last month to comment about the propblems with specifications of what exactly are the errors and messages to see of there’s a pattern. But just a few reacted, i can see most files are downloaded 50+ times allready, so i think the problem is not with me but with some individual users. All i can say is i do just the same as always, make packages with winrar and all comics i can read with CDisplayEx.

Hello.
I had similar difficulties, but I found that the problem lay with the software I was using. There are a number of different CBR reading programs and they all behave differently. And, in a similar way, there are different programs to unpack compressed RAR or ZIP files. Operating systems too behave differently, my Linux System will happily use a program to open a compressed file on one drive but if I try to use the program to open the same file, but on a different drive it says there is no data on the file.
Solution is to try different CBR reading programs and different programs to unpack the RAR or ZIP files. Free programs are available if you search for them. I have yet to encounter a file that I was unable to open after I experimented with alternative softwear..
Many thanks to boutje777 for making all this stuff available to us.

You are welcome. Thanks for the very useful suggestions. Problems can vary on so many points, that’s what make it difficult for me to handle all problems and make all files act the same for everyone. Some problems with downloading can be solved even with emptying the cache, it can be that easy sometimes. What can be helpful also is try to search for the error you encounter with google search or another searchprogram, often you will see others had the same problem and can have useful suggestions like yours.

I’m having problems too. For the second month in a row, I have just had to spend a considerable amount of my own time converting all of the Scoolgirls Adventure Library from jpeg format to jpg format as the jpeg pictures just will not work in Comic CBR reader. It would be much better if in the future you went back to creating all the comics to jpg format. Jpeg is a rubbish format. Sorry.

But just a few reacted, i can see most files are downloaded 50+ times allready, so i think the problem is not with me but with some individual users. I don’t change anything in the files let alone convert jpg into jpeg (We have to go back to a long time ago. JPEG stands for the abbreviation of Joint Photographic Experts Group. A JPG compresses an image: pixels are merged or blurred. Compressing an image is not always noticeable, but makes the image in KBs a lot smaller! The problem on computers (PCs) was the file extensions. MSDOS could not yet handle extension names of 4 letters. JPEG therefore became JPG. Ultimately, the format doesn’t matter. JPG and JPEG are actually exactly the same!) All i can say is i do just the same as always, make packages with winrar and all comics i can read with CDisplayEx.
P.S.
I don’t like to spend a considerable amount of my own time to convert everything and solving problems for individual users, which most of the times consists of wrong settings, older versions of software or what ever can be the case, sorry.

Having problems with some downloads but not others. So far it seems to only be certain picture libraries. Definitely Schoolgirls’ Adventure Library, True Life Library and TV Picture Stories are affected. I tried one Battle Picture Library download and it worked as did Combat Picture Library. Will try the others tomorrow and see what happends.

I think it has to do with being jpeg instead of jpg, i can read comics that has jpg or jpeg without problems with CDisplayEx and Comicrack, perhaps some systems can’t deal with jpeg, try to find out what extension the comics has that you can read and which extension the ones you can’t read, that will give you more leads i presume.

For the record, and incase this helps, what I get is the following error message: “Error opening file. Invalid Rar header” followed by a number.

Try searching for invalid rar header with google.

Tried that and discovered there got fixing Rar files after an error. It is for Winrar but might work with other systems.

I’m not very computer savvy ( old person), how do you search for invalid rar header? What does that do?

Constantly getting an error message claiming that a corrupt header is found in a RAR file is annoying.
Only with the correct software, you can open RAR files in your PC with the least effort and in the shortest time. WinZip is our recommendation for today.

Jacques, your words are mine. Why not Gerry Anderson? Where can I find ANDERSONIC? And Captain Scarlet? But let’s be honest: the site is fantastic…

Perhaps you did not browse through the site well enough, there is so much Gerry Anderson related material to keep you busy for awhile. And updates are always what i find/get so perhaps there is no more material that is scanned and shared.
