How many Playhour comics do you have? I see that boutje had uploaded much of what you posted. Do you have more from the 1950s that you haven’t scanned? Because I would love to see more of the Billy Brock comics from that decade through the year 1960 because I love the artwork.

        Not my work Alex.

        The scanner is ‘barry2065’.
I’m merely posting the links here ( as they come up ) so as to keep at least one other archive of them alive as file sharing sites have a nasty habit of disappearing overnight!!!

Playhour #8 and accompanying issues keep generating new download key? Can you advise please? Great site by the way.

That happens sometimes, when you try later or the other day the link is working again, let me know if the problem stays and i will make another link for it.

boutje777, the file ph58 (containing issues 624,625,627) appears to be damaged or corrupted. It downloads as a file size of 0kb and attempting to open it returns an error message “the archive is either in an unknown format or damaged”.

I downloaded it twice (once yesterday and once this morning) to make sure it wasn’t an error in my internet connection but both copies I downloaded give that error message.

Do you mean the links in comments or at the downloadsection ? The commentlinks usually don’t last long and the downloadlinks at the covers will be up and running again in the near future because i am reorganizing this page.

You are welcome. I hope to have the page organized somewhere at the end of the month or beginning next month, it often depends on how uploading works, i have to try it sometimes 4 or 5 times or even another day. In the mean time i try to fill some gaps also.

The front covers say “Every Monday” or “Every Wednesday” but the dates are actually Saturdays, is this an error?

    • boutje777 says:

I have no idea, i only use the dates on the covers, i don’t pay attention to what days, perhaps the dates of the end of each workingweek are used.

No. They were published on the day of the week stated but dated for the Saturday following. Many places didn’t pull anything till after it’s cover date, so that gave an issue a few extra days on the racks.

I’m genuinely curious about what shops used to sell these children’s comics back then…

I can only speak for the country i live, the Netherlands, all i can remember mostly from the 60s and 70s is that most of the childrencomics were subscriptions that came with the post every week.

As far as i know everything i got and found is on the page, but it could be that i missed some or the page has to be reorganized.
