  1. Ian Knox says:

Jack and Jill was a British children’s comics magazine published between 27 February 1954 and 29 June 1985, a run of approximately 1,640 issues.

The title was derived from the nursery rhyme of the same title but the characters ‘Jack and Jill of Buttercup Farm’ were otherwise unrelated. ‘Jack and Jill of Buttercup Farm’ was the cover strip for many years, originally drawn by Hugh McNeill and later by Antonio Lupatelli.

Thanks for the offer, i suggest you better wait awhile because i am planning to reorganize this page and fill some gaps with many updated Jack and Jills, so not every missing issue on the page is really missing. What i can do is leave a list in a comment with all i have right now and as soon as you copied the list i can remove it again.

hello I looked again after over 2 years – the ones I have are from 1955: issues 53,55,56,57,59,60,61,63,65-96 which I think are still mostly missing. Would you like for me to do them?

If you want The Magic Roundabout I suggest you download the issues and go through them yourself. I would suggest checking the GCD but only three issues of Jack and Jill have been indexed so far.

There were Magic Roundabout specials in the mid-seventies so that might be a good place to start. Is there any reason you can’t do this searching yourself?

Because I don’t believe The Magic Roundabout was part of the Jack and Jill comics, I looked at most of the 60s and the 70s & 80s, but didn’t find any…

I think you better browse through the Playhour issues, if you haven’t done that allready.

Well according to Wikipedia it did. one problem I note is that it looks like a lot of issues of Jack and Jill post 1969 don’t even have a skeleton listing in GCD. This may make indexing it fun (he say facetiously) but it isn’t helpful right now.

Short answer: You can’t. What you can do is look up an issue of a comic and see where a particular feature and/or story is located. Like I said there are only three issues of Jack and Jill indexed on the site, not unusual British comics really need some TLC,

    Jack and Jill – 1976-10-16

Not sure if there’s much interest in these? As I get ready to move house this year I found a small pile of these in a box in a wardrobe, some are in bad shape – the best case ones have the back cover cutouts removed, the worst one has no cover at all. Dates are mostly 1977, there’s a small number from 76 and 78 too. My Roy Of The Rovers scanning is my top priority, so just putting this out there to let people know some more of these exist and will appear in the future if there’s some interest.

@BTCGWP2004 The Magic Roundabout can be found on the back page of the 1968 Playhour Extra, but I think the wikipedia contributor might have read this page wrong: https://www.lambiek.net/artists/h/hutchings_gordon.htm. Gordon Hutchings worked on both Jack and Jill and Playhour, but Magic Roundabout were in Playhour. This seems to be confirmed in an advert for them in the Jack and Jill issue of 03/02/1968 on page 15
